Prime Minister Chairs Meeting on Upcoming Elections

On 30 June, in Nouakchott, the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messoud, chaired a meeting of the inter-ministerial committee responsible for preparing for the upcoming elections.

First, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance that His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, attaches to the consolidation of the democratic process within a framework of consultation which aims to strengthen democratic institutions.

The meeting examined the material means and the organizational methods necessary for holding the upcoming elections under the best conditions and within the legal deadline.

The inter-ministerial committee decided to form two technical committees to study all aspects related to the holding of the elections. The first relates to the legal and regulatory texts, and the second to the material and logistical means. The two committees shall submit their proposals by the end of July 2022.
