Minister of Foreign Affairs: EU attaches great importance to Mauritania’s efforts to consolidate the rule of law and promote individual and collective freedoms
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzough, explained that the organization of the Sahel Forum is entitled: “Development, Governance, Human Rights. For the security of the peoples of the Sahel” at this time in Nouakchott, in particular is not arbitrary, as it comes immediately after the fifteenth Session of the European Development Days held in Brussels, which pledged to allocate 150 billion euros for investment in Africa, pointing out that this session witnessed the active participation of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, thereby establishing Mauritania’s central position in the exchange with the European Union, since he took office three years ago.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of the forum on Monday in Nouakchott, he added that the talks held by His Excellency the President of the Republic during his participation in the European Days of Development with various European Union officials, showed the great importance that our European partners attach to Mauritania’s efforts in consolidating the rule of law and promoting individual and collective freedoms, good governance, as well as improving the health and life conditions of the population, the areas of education and the fight against poverty, marginalization and exclusion.
