Minister of National Defense, NATO Delegation Discuss Military Cooperation

On 5 April, Mr. Hanena Ould Sidi, the Minister of National Defense, received a delegation from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), led by Mr. Bora Halidim Onen, Head of Mission.

The meeting, which is part of the visit that this mission is currently paying to Mauritania, focused on the cooperation relations between our country and NATO and the means likely to strengthen them, particularly in defense.

Mauritania and NATO continue to expand their political dialogue and practical cooperation because of Mauritania’s important role in regional stability and security, as Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary-General has recently affirmed. He said: “I salute Mauritania’s important contributions to regional security. Your country plays a leading role in the G-5 Sahel and your forces are on the front line in the fight against terrorism in the region. We are closely monitoring the security situation”, before adding: “I am happy to say that we have agreed to strengthen the dialogue on the fight against terrorism. This dialogue can lead to greater cooperation between NATO and Mauritania”.
