On 8 March, Major General Mesgharou Ould Sidi, the Director-General of National Security, accompanied by Mr. Francisco Parado, the Director-General of the Spanish National Police, paid a visit to some security services in the city of Nouadhibou in the framework of the current tour of the director of the Spanish national police in our country.

The visit led the two officials to the regional security directorate in Nouadhibou, the headquarters of the mixed brigade of the Mauritanian police and the Spanish police, which fight against illegal immigration.

In Nouadhibou, the delegation followed a detailed presentation made by Senior Commissioner Mohamed Abdallahi Ould Taleb, the regional Director of Security of the wilaya, on the history of this brigade, the role it plays in the fight against illegal immigration, and the results obtained in this area.

Since its creation, the efforts of this brigade have made it possible in 2021 to arrest 173 individuals who used to lead the lines of illegal migrant trafficking, 2,137 illegal immigrants, 60 boats, and 107 engines used in irregular immigration operations. It also arrested more than 3,000 people preparing to emigrate illegally, placing them at the disposal of the General Directorate of National Security to deport them to their countries of origin.
