Minister of Economic Affairs: ” We have just secured the financing of an important and vital project for our country “

On 7 March, Mr. Ousmane Mamoudou Kane, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Promotion of Productive Sectors indicated that the financing of the project to supply the city of Kiffa with drinking water from Senegal River, which is a vital project, has been secured.

At the end of the second roundtable organized by the Saudi Fund for Development devoted to the mobilization of financing for the drinking water supply project for the city of Kiffa from the Senegal River, the Minister declared that for this project, $317 million in funding was granted.

He expressed his great joy – on behalf of his colleague, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, and on his behalf – to be present at the headquarters of the Saudi Fund in Riyadh, and that this constitutes “an opportunity to express our gratitude to the Guardian of the Holy Places and the Crown Prince”. He also thanked the Saudi people and their government for constantly “keeping pace with our country on the road to development”.

Furthermore, Mr. Kane pointed out that this meeting, which is the second of its kind, had brought together representatives of the Saudi Fund for Development, the Abu Dhabi Fund, the Kuwait Fund, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the Islamic Development Bank, and the OPEC Fund for International Development, after the first session held in Nouakchott on 15 November 2021.

He added that this project had achieved great success after its first phase resulted in the completion of fundraising, with the Saudi Fund providing $100 million to finance the project and the rest of the amount amounting to $217 million, distributed among the countries and institutions participating in the Riyadh meeting.

The Minister explained that this step constitutes an important success for Mauritania and the Saudi Fund for Development, “which spared no effort to mobilize the rest of the partners on our side”.

He indicated that the Mauritanian government is committed to implementing this project as soon as possible.
