The Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Mr. Abdel Aziz Ould Dahi, met Tuesday evening with His Excellency Ambassador, Head of European delegation in Mauritania, Jiacomo Durazzo.
In the meeting, both parties discussed the cooperative relations between Mauritania and the European Union and means to strengthen and develop them, particularly in the field of fisheries and maritime economy.
They also discussed in details the ongoing negotiations between Mauritania and the European Union about the renewal of the fisheries protocol in a matter that guarantees the interest of both parties.
The ambassador expressed the will of the European Union to boost Mauritania’s new fishing strategy by dispatching a technical expert to support the efforts of the Ministry of Fisheries in the field of follow-up and assessment.
In the same regard, the Ministry will launch a strategic trade policy that will enable it to provide a database that can be continuously updated.
During the meeting, they discussed a project for the promotion of fishing in Mauritania funded by the EU, Germany, and Spain at an amount of 27 million Euros; the EU part will be implemented by the International Labor Office.
The Minister of Fisheries expressed Mauritania’s determination to make the sector of fisheries attractive for investors and fishermen through a transparent, rigorous, and sustainable management of marine resources, on-site processing of products and the increase of their added value.
