OMVS Council of Ministers Holds 74th Ordinary Session

On 6 January, the Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (OMVS) held its 74th ordinary session in Nouakchott. The main objective of the meeting is to review the activity report for the year 2021, the 2022 program of the High Commission, the budget for the fiscal year 2022, and the challenges facing the organization.

In the welcoming remarks, the Minister of Oil, Mines, and Energy, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, praised the role that the OMVS plays in the region as it is present in all key sectors of the economy, especially irrigated agriculture, drinking water, and energy.

For his part, the OMVS High Commissioner, Mr. Hamed Diane Semoga, reviewed the results of the activities of the organization in 2021, saying it was able to withstand the context of the COVID-19 pandemic during which the organization held its various sessions to ensure proper follow-up of files.

For his part, Mr. Serigne Mbaye Thiam, the Senegalese Minister of Water and Sanitation and current chairperson of the OMVS Council of Ministers, indicated that this session would be an opportunity to set out the orientations. He added that it would seek the appropriate answers to the questions, which are at the heart of the realization of the various projects.

The 74th session of the OMVS also witnessed the establishment of a new office of the OMVS Experts Commission, headed by a Mauritanian.
