Under the supervision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and in the presence of the First Lady Mrs. Mariem Mohamed Fadel Dah, the General Staff of the Armies organized a large military parade, on Saturday morning at the crossroads of the old Nouakchott airport, as part of events marking the 60th anniversary of the National Independence Day.
Today’s parade highlighted the high combat capabilities and operationality of our armed and security forces, as well as their great ability to defend the territorial integrity of the country and instill the spirit of patriotism reflected in this glorious anniversary. The parade also demonstrated the ability of our national army to secure our vast borders from the incursions of the armed terrorist groups operating in the Saharo-Sahelian area.
Previously, His Excellency the President of the Republic, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armies, Lieutnant General Mohamed Ould Bamba Ould Meguett, had reviewed, in a military vehicle, along the road that connects the Beach City to the crossroads of the old Nouakchott airport, these detachments, congratulating the armed and security forces on this happy occasion.
The various military corps presented samples of their armaments, such as missile launchers, rockets and various devices used for border control and monitoring the activities of terrorist groups, as well as other means with various military uses.
The parade took place in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mohamed Ould Bilal, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Council, the leader of the democratic opposition, members of the government, heads of political parties, commanders of military institutions, as well as a group of invitees and thousands of inhabitants of the city of Nouakchott.
