The Minister of Social Affairs, Childhood, and Family organized, Monday at the secondary school of El Mina (Southern Nouakchott), a ceremony commemorating the international day for the elimination of violence against women.
The ceremony was marked by conferences on Human Rights and the necessity of the participation of all in the fight against gender-based violence, particularly young girls.
In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Sidi Yahya, said that the commemoration of this day at the school aims to raise awareness among students about this issue.
He added that Social affairs, Children, and Family Department works on a multidimensional approach to tackle the problem through awareness-raising and support to victims. He also stated that this year has witnessed the creation of the National Observatory for Women’ s Rights and the organization of awareness-raising caravans that visited fourteen rural municipalities.
