Training for Members of National Mechanism for Prevention of Torture.

The capital city Nouakchott witnessed this Wednesday the kick –off of training for the National Torture Prevention Mechanism (MNPT) Members.

This two days training-organised in cooperation between the MNPT and the United Nations Human Rights High Commission Office in Nouakchott is targeting the members of the body to enable them acquire necessary technical and scientific knowledge to fulfill their tasks properly.

Mme Moulaty Mint El Mokhtar, Head of the MNPT said in a speech on the occasion that this training will allow the workers to put in place good strategies in order to attain the goals of the MNPT body .

She added that the training is about international standards regarding the fight against torture, legal and institutional ways to prevent it, the policy of liberty prevention places visits, and other topics related to the subject.
The Head of the MNPT has hailed the support of the high authority to the department works and sincerely thanked the human rights high commissioner for his efforts and fruitful relation with the MNPT, urging the trainees to take better of this opportunity in order to help them serve the mission delegated to them through this organisation.

From his side M. Djibo Hamadou, on behalf of human rights high commission in the country, explained that torture is an evil act, unacceptable because it hurts and carry harms to human dignity.
He added that the fight against torture demands strength, renewed experience, which is this kind of training is all about.

M. Djibo Hamadou emphasised that Office of Human Rights High Commissioner in Mauritania will support the efforts of the MNPT to accomplish its mission properly.
The opening of the training sessions took place in the presence of the Commissioner in charge of Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society.
