Mr. Mohamed El Hacen Ould Boukhreiss, Minister of Water and Sanitation, chaired, Tuesday evening, a ministerial meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, on the financing mechanism of the regional project for the integrated management of groundwater resources shared in the Coastal Sedimentary Basin.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers adopted a declaration on groundwater in the coastal basin which foresees, among other things, the strengthening of the legal system governing the water sectors and emphasizing its application, capacity building of institutions responsible for water management and greater user participation in water resources management.
The initiative includes four countries: Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, and Guinea Bissau, with the participation of the Senegal and Gambia River Development Organizations and the Secretariat of the International Convention on Transboundary Waters as well as the Geneva Water Hub.
