Economic Affairs Minister Discusses Strengthening Development Partnership With AFESD Director General

On June 23 in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Abdallahi Ould Souleymane Ould Cheikh Sidiya,  Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, met with Mr. Fawzi Yousef Al-Hanif, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand the development partnership between Mauritania and this Arab financial institution.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the OPEC Fund Development Forum. The two sides discussed prospects for increasing the AFESD’s interventions in Mauritania to support the economic program of Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic, as well as accelerating the implementation of Fund-financed projects in infrastructure, water, and improving access to rural areas.

The meeting also addressed mobilizing additional financing and following up on international commitments to support the government’s development priorities, led by Prime Minister Mr. Mokhtar Ould Djay.

Both sides emphasized the need to develop the relationship into an integrated and sustainable development partnership that strengthens the resilience of the national economy.
