Government Spokesman: Mauritania Experiences Unprecedented Development in Public Freedoms

On 6 May in Nouakchott, the Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication, and Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman Mr. El Houssein Ould Meddou, stated that Mauritania is witnessing an unprecedented development in the field of public freedoms.
During a press conference held to comment on the Cabinet meeting results, Ould Meddou highlighted that Mauritanian prisons are free of any prisoners of conscience or journalists.
He emphasized that the country continues to lead the Arab world and achieve advanced rankings both continentally and internationally in freedom indices.
The Minister, speaking in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained that the media sector has undergone fundamental legal and structural reforms.
These include the approval of the “Professional Journalist Law” and the issuance of the decree regarding the “Press Card.”
Furthermore, the Government Spokesman noted that these achievements reflect a firm political will to consolidate democracy and provide a safe and professional environment for media practitioners.
