General Staff of Armed Forces Denies Allegations of Border Incursions, Affirms Full Sovereignty Over National Territory

The General Staff of the Armed Forces has confirmed that reports circulating on certain digital media platforms regarding the movement of fighters across national borders are baseless. It clarified that these reports are part of a disinformation campaign aimed at sowing confusion and undermining the credibility of the Armed Forces.

In a statement released on Saturday evening, the General Staff emphasized that Mauritania maintains full and sovereign control over its entire national territory.

Official Statement:

“The General Staff of the Armed Forces informs the national and international public that inaccurate and deliberately misleading information has been circulating on certain digital platforms, alleging the movement of fighters across our national borders.

While the General Staff firmly denies these claims, it stresses that such allegations are part of a clear disinformation campaign intended to create confusion and damage the credibility of our Armed Forces.

The General Staff reaffirms that Mauritania exercises full, continuous, and sovereign control over its entire national territory, particularly in border areas, where no hostile activity has been recorded, nor will any be permitted to occur.

The National Armed Forces remain on high alert, fully prepared and steadfast in their mission to monitor, secure, and defend the unity and integrity of the national territory. They stand ready to respond decisively to any potential developments.

Furthermore, the General Staff warns against the circulation or promotion of such false information, which constitutes disinformation capable of disturbing public order and harming the supreme interests of the nation.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces calls for the utmost vigilance and a sense of responsibility when handling information related to national security.”
