Environment Minister Participates in the Nature World Conservation Congress in France

The minister of environment and sustainable development, Marieme BEKAYE had participated Sunday to a high level meeting about the fight against deforestation comprising different parties: States, private sector, civil society organizations and indigenous peoples.
During the event participants has noticed the importance of promoting durable agriculture in the forests considering that by maintaining biodiversity is an crucial element for food security and achievement of durable development. Forests are also a common good that balances the cycle of water and climate equilibrium.
Some recommendations have been issued to put into effect a binding regulation, more investment in restoring forests and ecosystems preserving. It is been reminded that act of deforestation is a violation of human rights.
Mauritania, the like of many countries is facing the deforestation due to the illegal exploitation of forests and non durable agricultural practices.
The environment ministry is on a program targeting the forest code review, restoring 3000 ha per year and promoting the exploitation of forests products.
This program is included in the president of the republic M.Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani extended priority program (ProPEP).
