On Thursday evening in Nouakchott, the Japanese Embassy in Mauritania hosted a vibrant cultural and sporting event dedicated to Japanese martial arts, collectively known as “Budo,” featuring demonstrations of judo, karate, and other disciplines.
Addressing attendees, Japan’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Mr. Hiroyuki Uchida, highlighted that judo and karate, both rooted in Japanese tradition, have grown into globally practiced disciplines, appreciated for their physical and philosophical depth.
He underscored that beyond technique, these martial arts promote essential values such as respect for others, self-discipline, and emotional control, contributing to the balanced development of individuals both physically and morally.
The ambassador further stressed that these principles play a key role in personal success across academic, professional, and social spheres.
In turn, the Director of Competitive Sports at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports, and Civic Service, Mr. Abdel Kader Dahi, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Japanese Embassy for its ongoing support in advancing martial arts in Mauritania, particularly through its collaboration with national federations of judo and karate.
