The Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Mr. Abdallahi Ould Sidi Ould Cheikh Sidia, held an extended meeting in Jeddah on Wednesday with the Regional Director of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for Mauritania, Mr. Ahmed Ag Boukareine. The meeting focused on reviewing and monitoring vital development projects financed by the Bank in Mauritania.
Discussions centered on the progress of ongoing projects and the implementation of commitments made by the Bank during the Vienna development roundtable under the chairmanship of the President of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani. At that event, the IsDB pledged funding for projects aligned with the vision of the President and the program of Prime Minister Mr. Mokhtar Ould Ajay. The total value of these projects is US$500 million for the period 2026–2030.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania, Mr. Mohamed El Amin El Dahabi, the Ambassador of Mauritania to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Mokhtar Ould Dahi, and key representatives from the IsDB, including the Directors of Public-Private Partnerships and the Financial Department responsible for Islamic finance, financial markets, and sovereign ratings.
Both parties discussed ways to strengthen financial governance and improve access to global financial markets, leveraging the Bank’s expertise in credit rating and Islamic finance to ensure sustainable financing. They also emphasized targeting projects with the greatest impact on citizens’ lives.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister and the Regional Director reaffirmed the historic partnership between Mauritania and the Islamic Development Bank, expressing a shared commitment to overcoming challenges and ensuring timely implementation of all agreed projects.
