River Navigation Project The Council of Ministers of the OMVS Approves the Launch of the First Phase of the

The Council of Ministers of the Senegal River Investment Organization, at the conclusion of its 78th Ordinary Session held on Friday and Saturday in Nouakchott, adopted a set of structural decisions representing a new phase in the implementation of the organization’s strategic priorities, most notably authorizing the launch of the first phase of the Senegal River navigation project.
The council decided to assign SOGENAV to organize a high-level ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the navigation works in April 2026, and also called on member states to expedite the fulfillment of their financial commitments. The High Commission was tasked, in coordination with SOGENAV, with exploring additional financing mechanisms to fund the subsequent phases of the project.

The High Commissioner of the OMVS, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Fattah, presented the closing statement of the session, during which the council reviewed the level of implementation of the organization’s programs through activity reports from its various structures and approved them.
The delegations of the Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Mali, and the Republic of Senegal expressed their deep gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the current Chair of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Organization, and to the government and people of Mauritania, for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to the delegations during their stay in Nouakchott.
