The Chargé d’Affaires at the United States Embassy in Mauritania, Ms. Corinna Sanders, praised the “Heritage Cities” Festival (Madaen al-Turath) in the historic city of Ouadane, commending the efforts made to ensure the success of its 14th edition.
In a statement to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI), Ms. Sanders expressed her gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the Mauritanian government, and the residents of the Adrar region for their warm hospitality and the work put into organizing the festival, describing the experience as “amazing.”
She noted that this visit marked her first trip outside of Nouakchott and expressed her delight at being in the city of Ouadane.
Ms. Sanders emphasized that while this was her first visit to the historic city, she hoped it would not be her last. She also stated that she would recommend visiting Mauritania, highlighting the country’s wealth of things to see and learn, particularly regarding its history, along with the opportunity to meet the Mauritanian people.
Furthermore, Ms. Sanders added that Mauritania’s history is incredibly rich and fascinating, characterized by coexistence and cultural diversity. She affirmed that she views Mauritania as a wonderful country and is learning a great deal during this visit, which makes her feel very fortunate to be in the country.
