The Education Sector Support Project in Mauritania (ASEM), funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, concluded its activities in our country today, Thursday, in Nouakchott.
The Minister of Education and Educational System Reform, Mrs. Houda Mint Babah, affirmed in a speech on the occasion that this project reflects the strength of the partnership between Mauritania and France, especially in the field of education, highlighting that this French support falls within the framework of efforts aimed at implementing the high directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, regarding education and making it a national priority as it is a crucial investment in social justice and human capital development.
She explained that the sector, in collaboration with its partners, is working on building a fair and effective education system that ensures the quality of training and equal opportunities, considering education as a key driver for social stability, achieving equality, and enhancing employability and sustainable development.
She added that the 2022 framework law granted a special status to linguistic diversity, which broadens students’ cognitive horizons, emphasizing that the French language will continue to be present at various levels of education, necessitating the strengthening of proficiency among teachers and learners to support academic success and openness to global knowledge.
She pointed out that the ASEM project formed a successful model of bilateral cooperation between the ministry and the French embassy in Nouakchott.
In turn, His Excellency the French Ambassador to Mauritania, Mr. Emmanuel Bonne, affirmed that this project embodies the quality of the strong partnership between the two countries and reflects the shared ambition to build an inclusive and effective educational system. He praised the vision of the Mauritanian government and its steadfast commitment to developing education, highlighting that the Republican school remains the cornerstone in promoting national unity and strengthening the skills of the rising generations.
He explained that the “ASEM” project was in line with the commitments of His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Education Law of 2022, as well as the national program for sector development.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education and Educational Reform, along with a number of sector officials and technical and financial partners.
