Mauritania Receives 83.000 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses from UAE

The Minister of Health, Mr. Sidi Ould Zahaf, supervised, along with the Emirati Ambassador to Mauritania, His Excellency Mr. Hamad Ghanim Hamad Al Muhairi, at Nouakchott’s international Airport Oumtounsy the reception of 83000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, a donation from the United Arab of Emirates to bolster the country’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

These aids aim to boost and support the government efforts to combat the pandemic and mitigate the repercussions of its third wave, particularly the Delta variant.

It is to be noted that the UAE was among the first countries to provide medical supplies to Mauritania to boost the measures adopted to combat the pandemic. In April 2020, the UAE sent three planes carrying around 33,2 tons of medical supplies that include COVID-19 vaccines and medical staff to provide their expertise and strengthen health workforce capacity, in addition to testing devices and respirators.
