President of the Republic: All Measures Have Been Taken to Maintain Citizens’ Health and Environment Protection

Zouerate, 3 November 2020 (AMI)- The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, confirmed ,on Monday, at the end of the ceremony organized in Zouerate regarding the launch of works in the company Maaden Mauritania in Tiris Zemmour, that the government commissioned the company to follow the way of consultations with all, to guarantee the protection of environment and to preserve the health of citizens in the zones of prospections.

He thanked, in a speech, the gold panners for their gigantic work and the enormous sacrifices, appreciating their roles in the social and economic development of the country.
The President of the Republic added the moto of the company Maaden Mauritania: ‘’ Let us extract our mining sources with our hands to develop our country. It is a motto that has a particular signification and every word of it bears a meaning that encourages or propels the concerned to intensify this activity, which is a national effort achieved by a group of young people with simple means.

As for the opening of new zones, the President announced that around 104 000 km2 of the closed military zone will be opened to gold prospectors. The new area of prospection includes Shegat, which is described as being rich of gold.

Regarding the environmental impact of prospection, the President confirmed that anything that may harm the health of citizens or consitute a hazard to water ressources and pastures will not be tolerated for any activity whatsover.
