Minister of Public Service oversees the Announcement of the Results of the Representative Union Elections

Under the supervision of the Minister of Public Service and Labor, Mrs. Mariem Mint Boidiel Houmeïd, the results of the representative union elections were announced tonight in the meeting room of the ministry’s buildings, on the committee’s platform.

The chairman of the election oversight committee, in the presence of committee members, stated that holding these elections is a valuable achievement for Mauritanian workers and reflects the interest of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in this group on which the responsibility for the country’s economic development rests.

He added that the government, represented by the Ministry of Public Service and Labor and related sectors, provided all the material and logistical conditions for these elections to be conducted with complete transparency and impartiality.

He announced that three unions exceeded the 8% threshold, placing them at the top of these elections, namely the Workers’ Union of Mauritania (31.28%), the CNTM (18.71%), and the CGTM (14.66%).

Ten trade union centers participated in these elections, where the number of registered voters nationwide was 71,676, the number of voters 39,260 (54.8%), the votes cast 37,979 (96.7%), null votes 777 (2.0%), neutral votes 504 (1.3%), and the turnout rate 54.8%.

Representativeness in the public sector had produced the following results: Registered: 51,945, voters: 23,350 (45.0%), votes cast: 22,808 (97.7%), null votes: 396 (1.7%), neutral votes: 146 (0.6%), and participation rate: 45.0%.

Representativeness in the private sector is as follows: registered: 18,367, voters: 14,958 (81.4%), votes cast: 14,254 (95.3%), null votes: 362 (2.4%), neutral votes: 342 (2.3%), and turnout rate: 81.4%
