Brussels
The tenth meeting of the permanent delegates to the League of Arab States and the ambassadors of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union was held today, Tuesday, in the Belgian capital, Brussels, with the participation of a delegation from our country including: Mr. El Houssein Ould Dèh, Ambassador Permanent Delegate to the League of Arab States, Cheikh Sidi Ahmed Mohamed Salem, Ambassador Director of the Department of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, and Lalla Sidi Ali, Counselor at the embassy in Brussels.
During the session dedicated to the Palestinian issue, His Excellency the Ambassador, Permanent Delegate to the League, emphasized in his speech on this occasion the importance of dialogue and political consultation in crisis management, stressing the centrality of the Palestinian issue, considering that commitment to it serves as the normative indicator of the extent of international actors’ commitment to the principles of fairness and legitimacy, and to human values in general.
He warned that the Palestinian people, who are among the most suffering in the world and have borne the burden of decades of occupation and marginalization, are still waiting for international justice to turn into a realistic practice that will end their ongoing suffering and open up prospects for the establishment of their independent state.
He called on the European Union partners, based on existing ties with them, to play an active and responsible role in supporting the process aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the June 4, 1967 borders, in accordance with international resolutions and relevant legal references.
During the special session on miscellaneous issues, the permanent delegate gave a statement on our country’s policy regarding migration and mass displacements, in which he outlined, supported by figures and data, the burdens that the State bears in addressing this phenomenon.
