The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Mohamed Ould Khaled, chaired, this Monday, a wide-ranging meeting in the Ministry’s meeting room, including the Ministry’s Secretary-General, project officers, advisors, the General Inspectorate, central directors, department heads, and directors of institutions under the sector, as part of strengthening the principles of transparency and good governance in the management of public affairs.The meeting was dedicated to discussing the section related to the energy sector in the latest report published by the Court of Auditors.
In his opening speech, the minister emphasized the importance of the continuous evaluation of administrative and financial performance, noting that the government pays particular attention to reports from oversight bodies, considering them effective tools for strengthening transparency and improving the management of public resources.
The minister explained that, in accordance with the high instructions of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, practical measures must be taken to correct the imbalances recorded and respond to all the observations contained in the report, calling on sector officials to address the Court of Auditors’ recommendations seriously and responsibly, and to work towards resolving the various observations before the publication of the next version.
He also emphasized the need to accelerate the digitalization process within the administration and to improve management, monitoring, and internal control systems, calling for the development of a clear action plan to address the points mentioned in the report, in coordination with the services and oversight bodies, notably the General Inspectorate.
At the end of the meeting, the minister gave his instructions for the creation of an internal monitoring committee tasked with implementing the report’s recommendations and regularly proposing appropriate solutions, in order to improve performance levels and strengthen the culture of accountability and transparency within the sector.
