Foreign Minister Visits Spanish Commerce Chamber

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, paid a visit this Monday to the headquarters of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the capital, Madrid, as part of his working visit to the Kingdom of Spain.

During this visit, the Minister was received by the Spanish Secretary of State for Trade, Ms. Amparo López, and the Director of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Jaime Montalvo.

During the meeting, the Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the Spanish authorities for organizing the economic forum between the two countries, which served as an opportunity to develop a shared strategic vision for bilateral cooperation.

He added that the meeting was of great importance and expressed his hope that Spain’s efforts to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries in various fields would continue. The Minister also referred to the high-level meeting held between Mauritania and Spain on July 16, emphasizing that it represented an important milestone in the course of bilateral relations.

For her part, the Spanish Secretary of State for Trade affirmed that the July meeting was the result of the excellent relations between the two countries, noting that hundreds of millions of euros would be allocated to finance development projects in Mauritania.

She explained that the climate of political stability enjoyed by Mauritania encourages investment and noted that the “African Alliance” program will contribute to financing development projects in the country. She also indicated that the appointment of a Trade Representative at the Spanish Embassy in Nouakchott is a step to further encourage investment, adding that the Spanish authorities are working in cooperation with the relevant Mauritanian authorities to reduce debt levels.
