The governor of Nouadhibou, Mr. Mahy Ould Hamid, attended last night in the city of Nouadhibou the conclusion of the National Week of Culture and Arts organized under the slogan: ‘Your Vacation… Culture and Tourism’.
During the closing ceremony, cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the competitions held throughout this week in the fields of memorization and recitation of the Quran, prophetic chants, theater, poetry (both classical and popular in various national languages), and visual arts.
This cultural event witnessed the organization of lectures covering topics related to enhancing national unity, eliminating social disparities, the dangers of drugs and extremism, the importance of domestic tourism and spending holidays within the country, in addition to organizing visits to some archaeological and tourist sites in the areas of “Kabano” and “Star Bay”, and to ancient places that were designated for activities related to fishing.
The governor explained in a speech on the occasion that the activities included in this cultural week are a living embodiment of the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aimed at preserving national identity, enhancing citizenship values, and giving culture its rightful place as a contributor to comprehensive development.
He added that the diversity of activities between artistic performances, theatrical shows, scientific seminars, and heritage exhibitions provided an opportunity for the state’s residents to express their capabilities and enhance the spirit of positive competition and interaction among various components of society in an atmosphere of warmth and pride in belonging.
He affirmed that the presence and interaction of the audience is evidence of their attachment to their country’s culture and appreciation for organizing these events, committing to continue working to make culture a driver of development and a bridge for communication between generations and a wide space to showcase our local peculiarities.
The closing events of this cultural week took place in the presence of the governor’s advisors, the governor of the Nouadhibou region, the deputy president of the region, the assistant mayor of the Nouadhibou municipality, military and security sector leaders in the region, and a large crowd of residents.
