Prime Minister Discusses Uranium Mining Project in Northwestern Mauritania With Aura Energy President

On 9 June, in Nouakchott, Prime Minister Mr. Moctar Ould Djay received Mr. Philip Mitchell, the President of Aura Energy, an Australian company working on uranium mining in the northwest of the country.

The head of Aura Energy made a presentation on the progress of the project and the level of mobilization of the financing required for its implementation.

In response, the Prime Minister praised the efforts made by Aura Energy and its partners, reaffirming the Mauritanian government’s commitment to its new mining license management strategy, based on strict adherence to deadlines and the sustainable development of the country’s natural resources.

This meeting is part of the close monitoring of the major structuring projects launched in Mauritania in the application of the program of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, aimed at promoting investment, creating permanent jobs, and strengthening national sovereignty in the fields of energy and industry.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Philip Mitchell made a statement to the Mauritanian news agency, saying that he had been “honored to meet the Prime Minister of Mauritania.

He said he had “the honor of meeting the Prime Minister and giving him a presentation on the Aura Energy project for uranium mining in the northwest of the country.

He explained that the project would produce around one million pounds of uranium per year, equivalent to $160 million in annual revenues, noting that the implementation of this project would require $300 million in investments, and the installation of the plant and works would require around 1,000 people.

He said he had discussed the implementation plan for this important project with the Prime Minister, hoping that implementation work would begin early next year.
