On 9 June, in Nice (France), Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, took part in the third session of the United Nations Conference on the Protection of the Oceans, representing His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic.
The conference, organized under the theme ‘Accelerating action and mobilizing stakeholders for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans’, aims to accelerate action for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans and seas, contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It also aims to identify ways of supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14, which concerns the conservation and protection of the oceans against pollution.
It is noteworthy that Ms. Messaouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, and officials from the environmental department attended the conference opening.
