Roma: Mauritania participates in a meeting to promote Peace, Security and Gender Equality

Nouakchott

A delegation from our country headed by the Assistant Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Rassoul Ould El Khal.

Dedicated to the theme “Women, Peace and Security” and organized in cooperation between the Italian government and the United Nations Regional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), this meeting constitutes a key strategic framework to promote lasting peace, gender equality and security.

In his intervention during the meeting, the Assistant Commissioner explained that Mauritania has made women’s empowerment a central axis of its development strategy by developing ambitious policies to enhance women’s participation in all areas of public life, ensure their real access to decision-making positions, and strengthen their leadership, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.

As part of the effective implementation of this resolution, Mauritania has prepared a national action plan based on a participatory approach that mobilizes all actors from the governmental and civil society sectors and international partners, which has served as a strategic lever to promote the inclusion of women and girls, especially in conflict prevention, peace promotion and crisis management.

Within the framework of the effective implementation of this resolution, Mauritania has prepared a national action plan based on a participatory approach that mobilizes all actors from the governmental and civil society sectors and international partners, which constitutes a strategic lever to promote the inclusion of women and girls, especially in conflict prevention, peace consolidation and crisis management.

This dynamic was reinforced by the clear political will of the President of the Republic, H.E. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, who, through his “My Ambition for the Nation” program, placed the promotion of women’s rights among the main priorities of national development, he said, noting that this presidential vision committed the government to integrate the gender dimension in all public policies and sectoral programs.

He praised the exemplary cooperation between Mauritania and Italy, a friendly country and committed partner, which makes the empowerment of women and the fight against all forms of violence the centerpiece of its diplomatic and humanitarian work.

Our country’s delegation participating in this meeting included Mr. Esselmo Ould Babaah, Head of the National Branch for Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Original Education, Ms. Aloune Bint Salem, Director of Employment Policy and Vocational Integration at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Employment, Sports and Civil Service, and Ms. Lalla Fatima Jamila Moulay, Secretary General of the Sahel Women’s Forum.
