The 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Agency began on Monday in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, with the participation of a delegation from Mauritania, led by Her Excellency the Commissioner for Food Security, Ms. Fatimettou Mint Khattri.
Participants in the summit elected Mauritania as the rapporteur for the 15th session. Her Excellency the Commissioner for Food Security delivered a speech to the attendees, affirming the Islamic Republic of Mauritania’s strong and unwavering commitment to supporting the vital efforts of the ARC Agency and its full readiness to contribute to enhancing its performance as an indispensable tool for addressing the growing challenges related to climate change, which are becoming increasingly severe and complex with each passing day.
She added that this session comes at an exceptional time, as the Agency is going through a critical phase and difficult financial circumstances, requiring all member states to assume their responsibilities and take urgent and effective measures to extricate the Agency from this situation and restore its vitality, enabling it to fulfill its pivotal role and achieve its outlined objectives.
The Commissioner expressed her gratitude to the outgoing bureau of the organization, chaired by the Kingdom of Lesotho, for its significant efforts and important achievements under its leadership in enhancing the Agency’s performance and serving its noble goals. She also congratulated the new bureau, chaired by the Republic of Rwanda, and on the selection of one of its competent figures as the Director-General of the organization.
