Environment Minister receives Delegation from European Investment Bank, Beach Reclamation Company and Merijan Foundation

The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ms. Massouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf, held a meeting on Friday in Nouakchott with a joint delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB), the National Company for the Reclamation of Nouakchott Beach and the Meridiam Fund.
The meeting addressed real estate issues, the mobilization of financial resources, the filling of six gaps in the sand barrier protecting the city of Nouakchott from the sea tide, whose environmental impact studies are in their final stages, as well as the status of the central nursery for the production of seedlings that has been rehabilitated by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
During the meeting, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development explained that the presence of this joint mission in our country reflects the strength of the existing relations between Luxembourg and these entities, which translates the depth of the shared commitment to sustainable development.
She thanked the Government of Luxembourg for its continuous support to our country, praising the contribution of the European Investment Bank, which has invested heavily in our country, especially in the energy and minerals sector, enabling the establishment of key projects and strengthening the foundations for a sustainable energy transition.
She added that the Meridiam Fund continues to invest in our country in sustainable infrastructure projects, reflecting the harmony of the partnership with this fund to build a more resilient Mauritania, highlighting the importance of this cooperation especially in light of the common challenges of climate change and the growing pressure on ecosystems.

She said the shared priorities relate to the protection and reclamation of the Nouakchott beach, the development of an integrated urban movement between the ocean and the city, the development of a water drainage system, the construction of sustainable and accessible residential neighborhoods, the reclamation of inclusive amenity spaces and the launch of a large hangar that combines an energy strategy with a commitment to green transformation.
She added that these projects, which carry hope and the future, are not just infrastructures but community choices anchored in a vision: A green, resilient and progressive human city.
The meeting was held in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Salma, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, and a number of ministry officials.
