Transport Minister Highlights Important Decisions Made To Promote Transport Sector in Arab World

Nouakchott 21 October 2020 (AMI)- Minister of Equipement and Transport Mohamedou Ahmedou Mhaimid said that Mauritania has launched, in its plan to fight against COVID 19 Pandemic, an extended program of priorities aiming at providing the appropriate conditions for a permanent, creative, and comprehensive economic take off. The country allocated for this economic boost plan a financial envelop estimated at 8.5% of the national GDP, where the transport department has enjoyed a prestigious position in this program, materialized through funding the construction of new infrustructure facilities and renewing the fleet of the most needy transporters.
In his opening speech at the 33rd session of the council of the Arab transport ministers held on 21 October in Egypt, the minister added that during its presidency of the council last year, Mauritania made many decisions and important recommendations regarding the promotion and development of the transport sector in the Arab countries.
Mr. Mohamedou Ahmedou Mhaimid also assured that the transport sector has borne the heavy responsibility of protecting citizens through the various means of transport, and in this regard, Mauritania has developed an ambitious and systematic action plan at the transport level which made it possible to limit the spread of the pandemic.
