Bassiknou: Organization of Festival for Boosting Social Cohesion between Local Inhabitants and Refugees

The governor of Hodh Charghi, Mr. Cheikh Ould Abdellahi Ould Ewah, supervised yesterday at Mbera Camp the launch of the refugee’s festival, organized by the UN High Commissioner for refugees UNHCR) to boost cohesion between refugees and local inhabitants in the district.

The governor stressed that this festival aims to shed light on the peaceful co-existence that marks the presence of Malian refugees on the Mauritanian soil, where they shared with their Mauritanian brothers the means of living in an atmosphere of tranquility, stability, and harmony.

He added that the number of refugees in the world is dramatically increasing and that the amount of human suffering they experience is beyond description. In this regard, ‘’we see dispersed families and homeless children, which require that the world abides by its obligations and moral principles’’, he said.

He pointed out that the Mauritanian government will not spare any efforts to provide expedient conditions for the Malian refugees to ensure that they lead a normal life in the camp.
