The International Albinism Awareness Day was celebrated, Sunday in Nouakchott, by the launch of several activities under the theme ” Strength Beyond All Odds”. The launch was supervised by the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action, and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Rassoul Ould El Khal.
In a speech he made on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner affirmed that this day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the rights of this important group of society, to support its cause, and to value the achievements related to the promotion and protection of its rights.
He explained that the Mauritanian government has ratified all international conventions and protocols relating to the rights of people with special needs, which has enabled them to create organizations and associations active in their integration and the defense of their interests.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of some institutions, organizations, and associations of civil society active in the defense of human rights.
