Launching National Consultations to Draft the Strategic Framework for Cooperation Between Mauritania and IFAD
Nouakchott
The Ministry of Economy and Finance launched on Thursday in Nouakchott a national consultation workshop to draft the strategic framework for cooperation between Mauritania and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
This strategic framework is part of the preparations for the formulation of the Qatar Strategic Opportunities Program (2026-2033).
In a speech on the occasion, the Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Finance in charge of productive sectors, Mr. Bal Mohamed Fadel, said that the quality of the participants and their wide representation demonstrates the importance of this meeting, thanking the representatives of various institutions, technical and financial partners, projects and NGOs for their continuous commitment to follow up and implement development programs in general, and IFAD projects in particular.
He added that IFAD has a large portfolio of projects in Mauritania, identified based on its strategic objectives and in line with the main axes of the National Poverty Reduction Strategy and sectoral strategies, noting that this workshop is a key opportunity to exchange views among all partners to identify the best cooperation mechanisms.
He pointed out that since the start of the Fund’s operations in Mauritania in 1980, it has financed 16 projects with a total investment of $414.14 million, of which $187.11 million was provided by the Fund in the form of grants or soft loans, noting that these projects benefited 343,470 rural households.
He valued IFAD’s contribution to socio-economic development in Mauritania, stressing the importance of strengthening its interventions, especially in the areas of food security and nutrition, supporting local action mechanisms and enhancing the capacities of local actors.
