Nouakchott

The Mauritanian Scientific Association for Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen, in cooperation with the Ministries of Energy and Oil, and Higher Education and Scientific Research, organized, Monday in Nouakchott, an international forum on “Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen… Features and aspirations”. This forum represents a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and innovations, enhance cooperation between national and international institutions, and encourage research focused on the development of sustainable technologies in the field of renewable energy.

In a speech on the occasion, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Oil, Mr. Ali Silli Soumare, said that the energy sector represents a key lever of economic development in the country, adding that the provision of energy works to build a modern society in line with the modernization of the world and its requirements and provides more opportunities to operate industries, support growth and improve the living conditions of citizens. He pointed out that the sector faces global challenges such as climate change and the need for the energy transition, which necessitates serious work to rethink the approach to energy production and consumption.

Mauritania has ample renewable energy resources, including solar and wind energy, he said, noting that the country is blessed with a geographical location characterized by the highest levels of sun brightness and continuous winds in many areas, which provides an unparalleled opportunity to exploit these resources. In accordance with the vision of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, Mauritania is committed to establishing an appropriate legal framework for investments, which constitutes an undeniable asset, with a view to making greater use of the opportunities offered by renewable energies.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Mr. Yacoub Sidi Diagana, reviewed the importance of this forum, given its training dimension for multiple stakeholders in the scientific field, industrial experts, and businessmen, adding that the establishment of this structure for these scientific cadres in the field of energy is an important pillar for this sector, which occupies a priority in the country.

He explained that Mauritania is today experiencing a challenge that must be overcome, which is the success of the “energy transition”, which requires the involvement of young knowledge experts, noting that this will necessarily include taking the knowledge and experience of young people to ensure that this new dynamic is led under the supervision of public institutions responsible for this problem.

Ahmed Mohamed Yahia, president of the Mauritanian Scientific Association for Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen, said the association was founded on a clear vision, a vision for a sustainable Mauritania that relies on its abundant natural resources to achieve economic and social development that takes into account the environment and puts people at the heart of its priorities.

The forum was inaugurated in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and a number of those interested in the field of energy.
