The Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development announced on Saturday in Nouakchott the designation of the artist Mouna Mint Dendenni, the first goodwill ambassador for the environment and the achievement of the sustainable development goals for 2021. This designation s’ part of the activities commemorating World Environment Day, June 5. The activities were organized under the supervision of the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Mr. Mariem Bekaye.
Mouna Mint Dendenni, is a young artist who has already represented Mauritania in several international events, and is recognized for her activism in the major issues of concern to the Nation.
She will undertake a mission to put her notoriety and her personal capacities at the service of social mobilization and advocacy, in line with the efforts of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, in the field of awareness and community mobilization, to make the protection of the environment, biodiversity and the fight against climate change priority issues.
During her appointment ceremony, the ambassador signed a letter of engagement specifying her duties for a one-year term from June 5, 2021.
In a statement to the MAI, Ms. Mouna Mint Dendenni expressed her gratitude for the confidence placed in her by the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, stressing that she will live up to her expectations by accomplishing the missions that are entrusted to it, and which aim to sensitize national and international public opinion to the importance of preserving the environment and the sustainable management of natural and biological resources.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Mr. Abdoul Mamadou Barry and the technical advisor to the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development in charge of the media, Ms. Toutou Mint Bouka.
