Mauritania received the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development, on Friday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in recognition of the outstanding efforts made by the Oasis Development Project in the Dry Areas of Mauritania.
Mohamedou Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf, coordinator of the Oasis Development Project, received the award from Queen Sophia, Honorary President of the Award, and His Highness Abdulaziz bin Talal Al Saud, President of AGFUND, the sponsor of the Award.
The value of the award is 200,000 US dollars.
The award is a recognition by AGFUND and its international partners of the Oasis Development Project’s efforts to conserve land and pursue human development in the poorest areas.
Mr. Mohamedou Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf, coordinator of the Oasis Development Project in Mauritania, expressed his satisfaction at receiving this award, which reflects the interest of its sponsors in human development issues in our country.
He said that this award will motivate those in charge of the Oasis Development Project in Mauritania to exert more efforts to develop agriculture in dry areas inhabited by a large population that relies mainly on the cultivation of palm trees, vegetables and underground agriculture.
He thanked Queen Sophia, the Honorary President of the award, and His Highness Abdulaziz bin Talal Al Saud, President of ACFUND, the sponsor of the award, for the objective selection of our country for this distinction
