Nouakchott: 100,000 Poor Households Benefit from Health Insurance

The President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, supervised, Friday in Nouakchott, the ceremony of the official launch of a full and free health insurance for 100,000 poor households.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic handed out free health insurance cards to certain beneficiaries from the different wilayas of the country.

The operation constitutes the fulfillment of the commitment of the President of the Republic to raise the level of the poorest and most vulnerable households, and to facilitate their access to basic services, including quality health services.

The objective of this program is to provide 100,000 poor households, or approximately six hundred and twenty thousand people, with free health insurance.
The benefits covered by full and free health insurance are:
– Ambulatory care: Prevention, consultations, treatment, and auxiliary services;
– Hospital care: Consultations, Surgeries, treatments, and services
– Evacuations for necessary care listed;
– Lists of specialties and medical and paramedical acts;
– Equipment;
– Costs of medical transport.
This first batch of beneficiaries includes around one hundred and seven thousand individuals, including people living with a disability or chronic illness.

The process of integrating these target households into free and full health insurance will continue to cover all 100,000 targeted households by the end of 2021.

It should be noted that health insurance is one of the main levers of the economic and social development of nations, because it allows beneficiaries to access health services, limit expenses related to treatment in the event of disease, strengthen social cohesion, and reduce social inequalities and disparities and their negative consequences.

The official launching ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, the heads of national constitutional bodies, members of the government, some members of the diplomatic corps, and many guests.
