The President of the Republic orders the allocation of 50 billion old ouguiyas to finance an urgent program for the development and modernization of the city of Nouakchott

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouh, supervised, on Thursday in Nouakchott, the work of the steering committee in charge of examining cooperation and partnership programs with the European Union, in the presence of the head of the European Union delegation accredited to Mauritania, SEM. Joaquín Tasso Vilallonga.

The meeting was an opportunity for the Minister to welcome the Ambassador and the members of his delegation, stressing that this high-level participation testifies to the importance of the new phase of partnership for the two parties, which maintain excellent relations, strengthening day by day thanks to the will of His Excellency the President of the Republic,  Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who maintains close relations with the leaders of the European Union and regularly discusses with them issues of common interest.

The minister reiterated the various partnership files existing between Mauritania and the European Union, which are characterized by positive interactions and active cooperation on both sides, a dynamic illustrated today by the launch of the work of the steering committee, whose discussions will focus mainly on the budget support provided by the European Union to Mauritania.

In addition, the Minister referred to the successes recorded by our country in recent years in the fields of development indicators and human rights, thus contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of the population, in particular, the most vulnerable categories.

For his part, the European Union ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in terms of indicators, urging the teams concerned to intensify their efforts to accelerate the completion of the tasks assigned to them.
