The annual Social Forum of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), organized this year under the theme: “The contribution of development finance to the promotion of human rights for all,” kicked off on Thursday morning in Geneva, Switzerland.
The two-day forum will discuss topics related to international development cooperation, international trade as an engine for development, external debt and its impact on local economies, domestic resource mobilization and private sector access to finance.
The forum seeks to assess the current mechanisms of financing for development and come up with recommendations on the need for structural reform, in preparation for the upcoming Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.
