Doha: Minister of Social Work reviews Mauritania’s Experience in the Field of Family Protection and Maintenance

The Minister of Social Work, Childhood and Family, Ms. Savia N’tahah, presented to participants in a high-level session on “Family Policies in the Arab World: Compared to Best Practices in the World”, on the sidelines of the International Year of the Family Conference in Doha, the efforts made by the government under the guidance of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, in the field of family support and maintenance.
The Minister said that the Mauritanian Constitution stipulates in its sixteenth article that the state and society protect the family, and the laws and legislation in the country are full of texts guaranteeing the protection and maintenance of the family, especially the Personal Status Code, and that the Mauritanian state has established a national family policy, aimed at preserving the family and ensuring its welfare.

The Ministry of Social Action had worked to implement several programmes for the benefit of the family, including a programme for resolving and addressing family disputes, another programme for the provision of legal assistance to women victims of violence in the family, especially the deprivation of alimony, and a national programme for the promotion and stability of the family, called welfare.
She stressed that through participation in the conference, Mauritania sought to benefit from the experiences of Arab countries and the opinions of experts in order to preserve and protect the family in the Arab world.
The activities of the Doha International Family Institute Conference kicked off on Wednesday at the Qatar National Convention Center in Doha, under the title: “The Family and Contemporary Major Trends”.
