Minister of Justice Receives Advisor to EU Delegation

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Cheikh Abdallahi Ould Boya, received, Wednesday in Nouakchott, Ms. Els Mortier, advisor to the European Union Delegation, Governance, and Institutional Support team leader, who was accompanied by a mission from the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), in charge of the implementation of the West African Police Information System (WAPIS), funded by the EU.

The system aims to build the capacities of law enforcement apparatuses in ECOWAS countries and Mauritania to obtain, collect, administer, exchange, and analyze police data within this sub-regional organization to strengthen cooperation between the security apparatuses of ECOWAS countries and Mauritania and those of INTERPOL.

The meeting focused on finding appropriate mechanisms and modalities to facilitate the mission of the team in charge of executing this project, particularly the judicial and legal component.

The minister said he was ready to deal with anything that might strengthen security and judicial cooperation, as this is the only way to deal with organized crime, which has spread in the region. Consequently, aware of the threat to the sovereignty of the law in many countries, the international community has understood that those who defend it cannot be satisfied with using only national means.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Ould Ahmed Aida, Secretary General of the Ministry, Mr. El Khalil Ould Elemine, Officer in charge of special duties, and Mr. Amar Ould El Ghassem, Technical Advisor at the same department.
