President of Republic Hands Prime Minister Assignment Letter To Implement Key Objectives of “My Ambitions for the Hmeland” Program

On Thursday at the Presidential Palace, HE President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani handed over an assignment letter to HE Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay.

The President of the Republic said that the tasks under this letter are intended to be integrated in working to realize our ambition and our will that our country will always enjoy security, stability, growth, and prosperity, as well as in strengthening our democratic system within a framework of openness, cooperation and mutual respect between all components of the political spectrum. He added that the ultimate goal of these tasks is to make our country a homeland to which its citizens are proud to belong, preserving the values and teachings of their true Islamic religion, preserving, in unity and harmony, their diverse and rich civilizational identities, and uniting them in a strong bond of republican citizenship based on equality in dignity, rights and duties.

Before detailing these tasks, His Excellency emphasized that they must be carried out in strict respect for the principles and rules of the Constitution, especially those related to respecting and enshrining the separation between the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, ensuring their independence and smooth cooperation among them, stressing that the government is expected to consolidate the gains achieved in the first mandate He stressed that the government is expected to consolidate the gains achieved during the first term and focus its efforts on achieving the pivotal objectives of the electoral program “My Ambition for the Nation” on the basis of which His Excellency won the confidence of the Mauritanian people, which became an electoral promise and pledge that he committed to implement during the current term, noting that the government in charge must implement it in strategies and action plans for its implementation:

First: Building a strong state of law and institutions, with effective and modern governance, by accelerating the pace of reforms needed to strengthen our democratic institutions and make our judicial system more efficient and responsive to the legitimate aspirations of our citizens for justice and fairness, as well as by strictly and effectively fighting corruption and making public life more ethical.

II: Building a high-performing, upwardly mobile, environmentally sustainable economy through structural transformation leading to strong growth based on a competitive, diversified and resilient economy.

Third: Developing human capital, especially the youth, as the country’s present and future assets, through your work on a comprehensive reform of our educational system, enshrining the republican school and improving the quality, comprehensiveness and effectiveness of education and training at all levels.

IV: Supporting social integration to ensure cohesion and unity by envisioning and developing effective plans and mechanisms to combat poverty and economic and social disparity.

The President of the Republic stressed that while performing these tasks and distributing them to different sectors, the government in charge must, in particular, observe full transparency in the management of public affairs, prepare a comprehensive government action plan with sectoral action plans with measurable indicators and precise implementation deadlines, follow up on their implementation regularly, and take into account the time factor and ensure that the pace of implementation of development programs and projects is accelerated.

His Excellency stressed that we must work diligently and efficiently so that citizens can quickly feel a noticeable positive development in government performance, noting that he is aware of the size and difficulty of the task and assured his full support and accompaniment in order to achieve it.

The delivery of the letter of assignment was attended by Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdhaf,  Minister in charge of the Office of the President of the Republic, Mr. Nani Ould Chrouga, Advisor to the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdallah Ould Osman, and Rear Admiral Isselkou Ould Cheikh El weli, Chief of Special Forces of the President of the Republic.
