In an Interview with DW TV: Minister of Economy Outlines Mauritania’s Experience in Human Capital, Education, Social Protection

His Excellency Mr. Abdessalam Ould Mohamed Saleh, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, gave an interview to the German channel Deutsche Welle (DW), during which he took stock of our country’s experience in social protection, a major priority of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, with a view to improving the livelihoods of vulnerable groups.

The minister also addressed the existing economic cooperation and development relations between Mauritania and Germany, as well as between Mauritania and the European Union, highlighting the diversity and solidity characterizing these beneficial relations for all parties.

Regarding the situation in the Sahel region and the challenges it faces, the minister spoke of the security and development crises, climate change, and its harmful effects which have accentuated the rural exodus, the refugee crisis and social fragility, accompanied by a food crisis in the region. He also discussed the means likely to strengthen development and security stability as well as the central role of Mauritania in the region.

Mr. Ould Mohamed Saleh also underlined the importance of human capital through the strengthening of education, health, and youth employment, highlighting the different strategies and policies adopted by our country in this area, citing the Mauritanian model in strengthening social protection.

The minister also addressed the issue of refugees in our country and the considerable efforts made by Mauritania to manage this situation.

In conclusion, Mr. Ould Mohamed Saleh discussed the mechanisms put in place by Mauritania to promote investments, particularly through significant incentives intended to attract foreign investors, reviewing the numerous potentialities offered by our country as well as the main investment opportunities.
