2024 Presidential Elections: Candidate Mohamed Lemine Mourteji El-Wafi Presents Electoral Program Broad Outlines in Selibaby

On 19 June, Mr. Mohamed Lemine Mourteji El Wafi, the candidate for the 2024 presidential elections, chaired an electoral meeting organized by his supporters and sympathizers in Selibaby, the capital of Guidimagha.

The candidate called on all young people to intensify their efforts and continued mobilization to achieve “victory” on polling day, urging them to change the current situation and fight against unemployment and other problems that have led some of them to emigrate.

During a speech addressed to the residents of Selibaby, the candidate stressed that his electoral platform mainly focuses on education and the integration of national languages into the education system, saying that whoever leads the country must learn the national languages, committing from this platform to learning national languages so that he can address native speakers.

He added that he would work to reduce food prices, noting that “Emel shops, Taazour aid, and others cannot solve citizens’ food problems, stressing that basic foodstuffs must be subsidized.” He explained that to achieve this, one must first impose taxes on traders and businessmen, place them in the public treasury, and exploit them to support prices.

The candidate added that the country has long lived under the weight of corruption, which has prevented it from progressing, and that to change this, we need a clear vision and rigor in decision-making without getting carried away by emotion and without giving up to the influence of regionalism or tribalism.

He stressed that the work of charities must be monitored and inspected, as some of them have considered exploiting the poor to make money and taking funds allocated to the poor for themselves, noting that he is not against charitable work but that the state must take responsibility for investigating the source of this money and how to spend it.

He stressed that the practice of some policies in a vulgar manner, such as using inappropriate sectarian speeches and threatening national unity, is dangerous and unacceptable, warning in this regard that Mauritania is a country characterized by multiple segments and that no one should talk about one segment without another, considering this as a red line.
