Prime Minister Meets with Group of Mauritanian Businessmen

The Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Bilal Messoud, chaired, Thursday in Nouakchott, a meeting with a group of Mauritanian businessmen led by the president of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers (UNPM), Mr. Mohamed Zein El Abidine Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

The meeting discussed ways to implement the instructions of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, concerning the need to put in place an effective strategy to satisfy the needs of the country in food products, ensure food self-sufficiency, and strengthen our sovereignty in this area.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister affirmed the strong determination of the government to provide the conditions necessary for the achievement of these objectives, especially since Mauritania has sufficient potential in water and arable land.

He insisted on the fact that the State relies a lot on the committed contribution of businessmen in this action for which they have already shown their permanent availability.

The State has taken all measures to promote the private sector, improve the business climate, protect productive sectors, and build an infrastructural base conducive to the development of processing industries, as he put it.

He added that this option stems from the will of the government to defend the interest of our people, particularly that of our businessmen, and to provide the conditions capable of ensuring a life of dignity to our populations, especially since we live in a context where each country is working to strengthen its sovereignty in the food sector.

At the end of the meeting, the businessmen present affirmed their complete disposition to respond to the will of the President of the Republic to invest in vegetables and various food products and to ensure the sufficient and regular supply of the national market. They also expressed their satisfaction with the efforts made by the government to ensure the country’s food security.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, Ms. Naha Mint Hamdi Ould Mouknass, the Minister of Rural Development, Mr. Dy Ould Zein, and the Director of Cabinet of the Prime Minister, Ms. Aicha Vall Verges, as well as the advisor to the Prime Minister in charge of communication, Mr. Hasni Lefghih.
