On 20 May, in Nouakchott, the Constitutional Council published the final list of candidates for the presidential elections, the first round of which will take place on 29 June 2024.
In a press release sent to the Mauritanian news agency, the Constitutional Council indicated that the final list of candidates for the Presidency of the Republic was established and classified in order of receipt by the general secretariat of the Council, as follows:
1 – Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani
2 – Mohamed Lemine El Mourtaja El Wavi
3 – Hamadi Sidi El Mokhtar Mohamed Abdi
4 – Otouma Antoine Souleimane Soumare
5 – Mamadou Bocar Ba
6 – El-Id Mohameden M’bareck
7 – Biram Dah Abeid
By the deliberation of the Constitutional Council No. 2024/003/CC, adopted during a session held on 20 May, under the chairmanship of Diallo Mamadou Bathia, it was decided to “publish this list under the provisions of article 5 of Decree No. 2012/278 on 17 December 2012, and transmit it to the government for publication in accordance with Article 8, new, of Order 027/91 on 7 October 1991 amending the statutory law relating to the ‘election of the President of the Republic‘.
This decree will be published in the Official Journal of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
