President of Republic, AU Chairman, Receives Written Message From Malian Counterpart

On 15 April, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic, President in Office of the African Union (AU), received a written message from His Excellency Mr. Assimi Goïta, the Head of the Transitional Authority, Head of the State of the sisterly Republic of Mali.

The message was delivered during an audience granted by the President of the Republic to a ministerial delegation from the Republic of Mali, including Mr. Abdoulaye Jobe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Colonel Sodio Camara, the Minister of Defense.

In a statement to the Mauritanian news agency (AMI) shortly after the meeting, the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation indicated that the message concerns the promotion and development of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and people and the continuation of consultation between the two presidents on issues of common interest at the national and regional levels, particularly under the presidency of His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani of the African Union.

Mr. Jobe highlighted Mauritania’s permanent commitment to respect Mali’s strategic choices and preserve its stability and territorial integrity, stressing that the Republic of Mali counts on the support of His Excellency the President of the Republic Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani to ensure peace and prosperity.

”The discussions also focused on the assessment of the security situation in the region, particularly on what Mauritania and Mali can and must bring daily to work together within the framework of a synergy of actions and continuous dialogue to be able to strengthen security within our two countries, particularly the movement of populations on our common borders.

I must say that we are reassured by the commitment of the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to work daily to meet the expectations of the population and also to strengthen the good relations linking the two countries.

We were also comforted by the constant commitment of His Excellency the President of the Republic and Mauritania to work to respect the strategic choices of Mali, preserve the territorial integrity and unity of Mali, and support Mali in its sovereign choices to ensure peace and prosperity,” as he put it.

On behalf of the Malian President, the Minister thanked the Mauritanian authorities for welcoming the Malian community taking refuge in Mauritania.
